Photo of Amy and Ron Buying HP7 at the Mendocino Book Company in Ukiah, California

It is July 21, 2007. At 12:01 this morning, I paid the Mendocino Book Company in Ukiah, California $37.70 for my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. (Read subsequent post on Aug. 1 to find out more.)

Well said! With all of the talk about marketing, leaking, professional opinions etc, we need to remember that these books are for kids. They have touched the lives of many kids who I know, and brought much joy. It tends to be the adults who make everything all wonky. Go indy bookstores! Go communitites!

I am more excited than you can imagine to see your comment on my blog. I just started the blog and don't know how to get readers, just hope people search words and my blog turns up. But I really appreciate making the connection through the internet community. I'm glad my take on HP7 was meaningful for you!

Thank you for that beautiful post! You are dead on. I wish our local independent bookstore hadn't gone under. I would certainly have been there. As it was, I spent the evening at festivities at the local library where I enjoyed the company of many other book lovers!

(I was one of those booksellers hand selling the book in December of 1998. I am very proud of that fact.)

I agree: well said! I originally wanted to buy our copy at the local indie bookseller, but it's across town (there's only one here), and our daughter wanted to go to the book release party with friends who were going to the bookstore (there's only one) on this side of town. It's a Borders...

So, while I didn't support our indie bookseller this time, I was there in spirit. And I'm glad you did.

P.S. I've found the best way to get readers is to be one, and to comment on other people's blogs. FYI.

Ah, that was me. My husband didn't sign out of his account before he left for work today... though, you could pop by his blog and read his take on Harry Potter, if you'd like. :)
